Community Tapestry Project at the Garden Museum

August 12 @ 11:00 - 15:00

Join artist Ray Allan Mahabir (Sunshine Arts) in the collaborative creation of a large-scale contemporary tapestry, becoming part of the making of a living artwork.

Inspired by the Garden Museum’s exhibition Benton End: A Paradise of Pollen and Paint and the work of artist and horticulturalist Cedric Morris, this project brings together painting, textiles, recycled materials, embroidery, and the visual language of Mas and carnival traditions. Together, we will explore the connections between people, migration, plants, biodiversity, and urban life.

The final design has evolved through conversations and creative contributions gathered during Neighbours Day, reflecting the voices and experiences of the local community.

Over three making sessions, participants will contribute to different stages of the artwork’s creation.
